How will the prize fuel innovation and accelerate scientific solutions?
The prize
The Frontiers Planet Prize celebrates breakthroughs in sustainability science, rewarding solutions that show measurable potential to help humanity remain within the boundaries of the Earth’s ecosystem.
Selecting the champions
Nominations for the prize come from the world’s foremost universities, national academies and funding agencies. This creates a dynamic, global competition among countries and their leading scientific institutions.
Renowned sustainability scientists make up the Jury of 100, voting first for one National Champion from each country, and then for the three prize-winning International Champions.
Each prize-winning scientist’s institution will receive one million US dollars, to support their continuing research, as well as worldwide exposure for their research.
Finding the solutions
But the Frontiers Planet Prize is not just about individual research – its aim is to engender international competition and support collaboration that will help accelerate scientific discoveries worldwide.
The prize is also about promoting solutions, underlining the urgent need for greater funding – public and private sector – for sustainability science in every country.
It gives voice to scientific facts, helping to inform policy and ultimately support the adoption of scientific breakthroughs in commercial markets.
With each edition of the prize, the champions will be supported in embedding their award winning research, and expertise in roundtable discussions at some of the world’s most relevant conferences and regional events.
